Orbital Technologies Announces First Cash Award of Its SFU Scholarship
Vancouver, BC – October 18, 2005 – Orbital Technologies Inc. announced today the first cash award of the Orbital Technologies Scholarship in Computing Science at Simon Fraser University to an outstanding computer science student.
The first award of $500 was presented to Michael Bodynk for his academic and community service efforts. Mr. Bodynk is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with a joint major in Computing Science at SFU.
“All of us at Orbital congratulate Michael on his award, academic accomplishments and community service,” said Amyn Rajan, President and CEO of Orbital. “This award recognizes exceptional students, like Michael, providing both encouragement and financial assistance with studies,” added Rajan.
The Orbital Technologies Scholarship in Computing Science is funded by a $10,000 endowment, providing a permanent legacy to the University. The scholarship provides one student each year with a cash award that may be used to help pay tuition, books, or living expenses. Recipients must be an approved Computing Science major, demonstrating strong academic performance and documented community service.
“Industry support and scholarships such as these are an integral part of many of our programs at Simon Fraser University,” said Preet Virk, Manager of Awards Fundraising at SFU. “We’re pleased to be able to provide awards to good students, like Mr. Bodynk, with the generous support of companies like Orbital Technologies.”
Orbital Technologies has a history of community giving. The SFU scholarship is one of three similar scholarships at different BC universities, all set up by Orbital to encourage and assist in the development of BC’s technological talent.
“Most of Orbital’s employees are BC educated; BC universities produce exceptional talent,” added Rajan, also noting that Orbital is currently looking to hire software developers and business development people for its Vancouver-based operation.
