Orbital Technologies Establishes UBC Scholarship
Vancouver, BC – January 31, 2006 – Orbital Technologies Inc. announced today that it has established the Orbital Technologies Award in Computer Science at the University of British Columbia. The scholarship is made possible by a $10,000 endowment, providing a legacy to the University.
The Scholarship will be made on the recommendation of UBC’s Department of Computer Science to one full-time undergraduate student each year in the Computer Science program at the University. The amount of the Scholarship will vary based on money available from the endowment each year.
“UBC is an outstanding Canadian university with an excellent computer science program,” said Amyn Rajan, President and CEO of Orbital. “We hope that this scholarship will help promote and support the studies of computer science majors at UBC and contribute to the further development of outstanding software engineering talent within BC.”
Applicants will be evaluated based on academic performance and community service. Applications should include a reference letter documenting community service, as well as a resume chronicling volunteer service in the community. When possible, preference will be given to a female student. The first scholarship is expected to be granted in 2007.
“UBC is extremely grateful to Orbital Technologies for endowing the Orbital Technologies Award in Computer Science,” said William Aiello, Head of the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia. "This award will provide financial assistance each year to an undergraduate in computer science with an outstanding record of both scholastic accomplishment and community service. In doing so it will help Canada and British Columbia train a generation of well-rounded technology leaders who will themselves give back to society in many ways, in the same spirit as those who have endowed this award."
Applicants can obtain more information about the scholarship from the Student Financial Assistance and Awards office at the University of British Columbia.
