Vancouver Software Product Development Services Firm Bestows UVic Scholarship
Orbital Technologies Inc. Announces First Cash Award of Its University of Victoria Scholarship
Vancouver, BC – October 10, 2006 – Orbital Technologies Inc., a leading Vancouver-based provider of outsourced software product development services, announced today the first award of its University of Victoria Scholarship.
The first cash award of the Orbital Technologies Inc. Scholarship was presented to Susan Perkins in recognition of her academic achievement and community service. Ms. Perkins is currently completing her Bachelor of Software Engineering at the University of Victoria.
“We congratulate Susan on her award, academic accomplishments and her community service,” said Bill Dorfmann, VP Engineering at Orbital Technologies Inc. “Orbital’s UVic scholarship was set-up to recognize the hard work of students, like Susan, within the University’s computer science and software engineering programs. Many of Orbital’s software developers are BC educated, and we continue to hire top-notch talent from BC universities. Susan’s award is the first of many in recognizing exceptional students.”
The Orbital Technologies Inc. Scholarship with the University of Victoria’s Faculty of Engineering was made possible by a $10,000 endowment by Orbital to the University. The scholarship provides one student each year entering third or fourth year in the Bachelor of Science Major or Honours program in Computer Science, or in the Bachelor of Software Engineering program at the University with a cash award to help pay for tuition or books. Scholarship candidates are assessed on academic performance and documented community service with preference given to female students.
“Orbital’s scholarship is testament to the industry recognition and support of our students,” said Michael Miller, Dean of Engineering of the University of Victoria. “Generous gifts, such as the one from Orbital Technologies, provide both added encouragement and incentive to our students while completing their education.”
Orbital’s scholarship is one of three scholarships established by the company at BC universities. The company has also established similar scholarships at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia.
