Updating and Porting ReportView for Business Objects™

Challenge

•   Business Objects decided to update one of its sample report   applications to the latest version of its leading business   intelligence software. In addition, it needed the work   completed within six weeks to meet an internal target, while   ensuring best development practices to maintain the high   quality standards of its software.

Solution

•   Orbital Technologies was secured by Business Objects to   assist with additional functionality to the report tool and to   port the updated J2EE application to .NET. Orbital was   selected because of its reputation for delivering quality   software in accordance with client timeframes and   objectives.

•   Orbital delivered the application on schedule with all of   Business Objects’ specified functionality. Testing at Business   Objects confirmed that the product was high quality and   robust.

When Business Objects decided to update one of its reporting tools within the current version of its product, Business Objects selected Orbital.

Business Objects contracted with Orbital to assist in updating one of its sample report applications to match the current product version, BusinessObjects XI. Business Objects planned to add Dynamic Cascading Prompting and to port the updated application from its existing J2EE to .NET.

Business Objects planned to complete and test all work within six weeks in order to meet an internal target. Within this short timeframe, Orbital was tasked with incorporating the new functionality, updating the tool to the current version, porting the application to .NET, and creating an installer that would enable the new .NET version to work out of the box. This work needed to be completed to the high quality standards of other Business Objects software and adhere to .NET best practices.

Throughout the project, Orbital maintained close contact with the Business Objects team. Orbital provided regular project updates to ensure the highest level of compliance with Business Objects’ specifications.

Orbital delivered the project on schedule, providing two versions of the updated report tool – a J2EE version and a .NET version – documented and with all specified functionality. Orbital also provided the install application for the new .NET version, enabling it to work out of the box.

The product that Orbital delivered to Business Objects was stable, robust and high quality.
