Achievement Technologies Inc. provides a variety of market leading educational productivity tools to support student achievement in K-12 and adult learning environments. SkillsTutor is a product line offered by Achievement Technologies that provides their customers with instruction and test preparation.

Orbital was secured by Achievement Technologies to develop an application that could convert educational content developed by SkillsTutor so that it could be used for interactive learning over the Internet.

The key design considerations employed by Orbital were based on the fact that the SkillsTutor educational content, as presented over the Internet, needed to provide an engaging, meaningful and effective learning experience for customers of Achievement Technologies.

Orbital was able to successfully deliver on this project by building a specialized conversion application that would allow the team at Achievement Technologies to selectively convert SkillsTutor educational content for use on the Internet, meeting the needs of its expanding customer base. This solution was technically rigorous and satisfied all usability requirements.

The project took 12-person months to complete, and Orbital was able to deliver a final product to Achievement Technologies on time, and on budget.

In building the Internet conversion application, Orbital devised a solution that would allow for significant compression of each SkillsTutor file to a level that would permit rapid and effective publishing of this valuable content to the Internet.

In managing the project, Orbital’s project team was careful to ensure that each distinct action item was properly executed in accordance with the overall project plan. Specific tasks included setting up an authoring system, creating an intermediate language for the converter to interact with other tools, developing a text composition engine, and providing for the creation and management of specific Internet-based formatting considerations.

As a result of this project, Achievement Technologies has been able to convert popular SkillsTutor educational content, such as SkillsBank™ 4.0, so that these programs can be offered through a new “virtual” channel, using the incredible power and reach of the Internet. Orbital is proud of its involvement on this project.
